We made our city sparkle!

Check out these before & after photos

Our incredible teams of volunteers have been hard at work giving gardens and public spaces a fresh look this spring. Be sure to explore all the areas they’ve transformed, including Selwyn Place, the suburban bus station, Buxton Square, Montgomery Square, Halifax Street, New Street, and various private walls throughout the city.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our dedicated local volunteers, along with Live Life Disability Support Day Services, Downtown Backpackers, Open Home Ready, Nelson Environment Centre, Boffa Miskell, RMM Landscape Architects, Arthouse Architects, Magenta Creative, VenueTech, Thompson Property Group, Nikau Hauora Hub, Bett Apartment Residents, and our amazing ‘Angel Gardeners.’

We also want to give a special shoutout to the Nelson Provincial Museum and The Suter Art Gallery Te Aratoi o Whakatū for their own spring clean efforts.

Gardening

Nelmac was our major partner. We were grateful for their support with supervising volunteers and supplying equipment and plants to help revitalise various gardens around the city.

Suzy and the team planted vibrant spring flowers and installed a free little library for all to enjoy at RED Gallery!

Our ‘Angel Gardeners’ on New Street

The suburban bus station planters got some gardening love!

Planting

The team at RMM Landscape Architects turned an unloved garden into an urban oasis.

Arthouse Architects gathered for a working bee as part of the Spring Clean Self-Generated projects. The team focused on removing graffiti from the roller door, clearing weeds, and tidying up tagged areas to restore and enhance the space.

Architect and artist Richard Sellars was commissioned to create an artwork on the roller door.

Residents of Nile Street enhanced the green spaces with appropriate planting and will adopt the spaces to ensure their success.

Planting

Landscape Architects Boffa Miskell gathered together for a working bee at Buxton Square.

Residents of the Bett Apartments painted the fence next to the Innbetween Backpackers.

Painting

Our Make/Shift Spaces technician painted out graffiti from a doorway.

Cleaning

The team at Open Home Ready volunteered by cleaning off posters from a wall in Montgomery Square in preparation for an art installation to be installed.

Nikau Hauora Hub

The team at Nikau Hauora Hub cleaned up the back carpark/courtyard space by weeding the area, cleaning and waterblasting, painting the picnic table and finding a good spot to create a mosaic memorial park for one of their whanau who has passed away this year.

The team at Spa World Head Office refreshed the plantings and painted the wood outside of their office on Waimea Road. They loved the event and will definitely do it again!
